You guys! I finally got a Helmer!
In fact, I've gone from none to THREE!
Precipitated by my Mum slightly flipping her lid since all my junk turned up from Melbourne, but also Ikea Perth having the silver Helmers on sale for $39 (you read that right Aussies - $39!).
After a 3 hour round trip and a nightmarish experience at Ikea (NEVER going back there again) I came home triumphant with 3 flatpacks, a headache and a night of assembling ahead of me.
All of this was relatively easy thanks to Kaz's awesomesauce instructional post on putting Helmers together without going on an "Archer" style Rampaaage!
All three were put together with minimum fuss, but I still had a bit of Helmer fever by the time I'd assembled three in a row.
This c
ulminated in Mum and Dad coming home to find me sitting on the living room floor, innards of Helmers all around me, singing "Trapped in Cabinets" while the cats ran around hysterically.Ah, good times!
But anyway - the Helmers are now assembled inside my wardrobe, where they don't exactly match the decor but they're away from public view so it doesn't really matter -
Not bad. Not bad at all.
I lined them all with non-slip stuff and now my polish takes over one and a half of the helmers (each colour has it's own drawer, with a few types merged together).
The rest I'm using for my oversized jewellery and stuff.
I'm very happy now I've got them, and I gotta say - nothing beats having your own dedicated "Untried" drawer, filled with your latest haul from Cherry Culture :D
Sigh. Look at my babies all snuggled in there. Sometimes I just sit and watch them sleep. And no, that's not creepy at all.
Shut up.

I just went to Ikea to scope out helmers recently too! I'm hoping someone will get one for me for my birthday since I'm a wee bit short on funds right now. *cough cough Mom, Dad, pretty please* They had a pretty snazzy looking red one there, which doesn't match anything I own but I want it anyway.
I rather detest Ikea. RTA have to be the worst 3 letters in the english language. Plus my closest Ikea is around 3 hours away. However, $39?!?! Amazing. I would quite possibly make the trip for that.

OMG I almost fainted reading this post - $39?!!!! What an awesome bargain! I noticed that the RRP is $50 more in Sydney! Why oh why do Sydneysiders have to pay more =(

Laura - I had my heart set on the red, too till I got there and realised it was only the silver on special. I chucked a sad and then got the silver anyway. So worth it!
Jaz - Oh, it was the seventh layer of hell! They wouldn't let me get my trolley to the car and I was on my own. I ended up having to leave my stuff unattended so I could go get my car to the pick up point. Really shoddy, so I won't be going again. Even for $39 Helmers...
'chelle - Thanks :) Yeah, I just about swallowed my tongue when I saw the ad :) Usually it's us Perth-ites stuck with higher prices than the rest of the country!
That's just what I need, about 6 Helmer's. Glad to know Kaz has instructions. I have 2 of those 6 drawer plastic things. The wheels are breaking off and they're leaning to one side. I have another 10 containers of all sorts lined up on my floor. What a darned mess. Wish I could see the pictures.
